REHABILITATION
            OPERATING REVIEW

                                           AND RETROFITTING

Buildings in Hong Kong, mainly constructed with reinforced
concrete, can have a lifespan of over 100 years if they undergo
proper maintenance. In the fight against urban decay, rehabilitation
plays a crucial role in extending the service life of buildings, thereby
                                           reducing the pressures for redevelopment.

In the past year, the URA has placed great emphasis
on promoting preventive maintenance. Apart from

administering various subsidy schemes for the
Government, URA also funded and introduced the new
Preventive Maintenance Subsidy Scheme that encourages

owners to establish maintenance and financial plans for
upkeeping their buildings on a periodic basis.

On the technical support front, we have begun trialling the adoption
of a set of guidelines and templates for preparing maintenance
manuals among Owners’ Corporations (OCs) and building
